An Introduction by George Melly Peter West first approached me in the dressing room of a jazz club I was working in and asked to show me some photographs of his work. I sighed inwardly because one of the penances of being known for my life-long interest in surrealism is that every now and then somebody writes to me or turns up with some frightful derivatives of the great painters of that movement. However, when I looked at Peter's work I saw immediately that this was a truly imaginative search for the demons and angels which live in the well of his subconscious. They are not reassuring paintings but they are entirely authentic, extraordinarily interesting and disturbing. I feel that he is someone worth following with sustained if troubled attention. - George Melly Dog bless George RIP x.

Peter West So much fun It's hard to stop. Nice Spider Joanna. I'm not scared, are you. Thanks to those who have taken the time to comment and share their thoughts. I'm pleased to say Crazy golf ( the sister of mini golf) has now been added to the site, (page 26 in the gallery below). The picture 'Blue' has also been added (page 27). There is a new picture on the way, (2011) it's almost done, it really is Honest. Signed A4 Prints are available for free, if you would like to comment or criticise . Or just ask. No money, or information required. Unless of course you want to buy an original painting. e-mail. Comments from Naser Sadiq. I feel that what your work is immensely successful in doing is evoking and unleashing the entombed spirit within us all. I am astounded to relate to the subject of your work. It is as one critic describes, “not reassuring”. Yet one feels the ability to witness almost from a height, what you yourself describe as “the human condition”. Furthermore, your work compliments the philosophical yearns of literary forerunners, “Nothing connects with nothing” T.S. Elliot. A more fitting quote yet, Astride the grave is a difficult birth” Samuel Becket”. From a personal viewpoint, your endeavor to depict the mystery of the hidden mind is highly successful. Your work is definitely ‘authentic’ but also alive and very successful in stimulating the mind into self-recognition. Of course you will be streamed into the title of ‘surrealist’ or ‘alternative’ artist. But I feel that your message surpasses these to some extent. Yet, I, sadly do little more than praise and encourage you. I wish you much success and I know that you will receive the acclaim you deserve. I have witnessed through your work emotion, grief and realism and have recognized what others simply dismiss as the futility of life. We are afraid to comprehend this state of life, and therefore choose to blind ourselves from it. Once again, congratulations in your self-expression and your ability to tap into the innermost spiritual being. Yours most sincerely, Naser Sadiq.
